When raising children, the idea of protecting them from all sorts of damage, pain, trauma, lost time is the #1 priority of parents. As children grow older, the intent is to advise them, inform them, train them and prepare them to continue this protection on their own. The role of a leader, especially as a mentor is the same. Providing insight, warnings, cautions, admonishment is essential to the development of future leaders. Selfish, envious, egotistical leaders often see a well developed, well rounded, secure, confident young leader as a threat to be squelched. Guarding the heart, mind, eyes and ears of developing young leaders will give them the surety of survival in a world which sees them as a threat.”

LEADERSHIP BEGINS EARLY WITH LEARNING TO OPEN THE DOOR

In leadership the small details often matter the most. The simple tasks are easy to over look but they are evidence of something significant. The willingness to serve others is a huge indicator of things to come. A leader who does not see the needs of others is different from a leader who sees them and does nothing. Neither should be in charge for long. Sadly, our culture has been misled on the true nature of leadership and people who are extremely self serving seem to flourish while the ‘good guys finish last.’ … but the last shall be first…”
